I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Ps 16:8 (NIV)
I tend to be a little accident prone. My legs have an array of mottled green and purple bruises on them at any given time, and I probably break things a little more than the average person… lots of glasses, plates, etc. And most of the time it’s because I’m not looking at what I’m doing or where I’m going. I even chopped off a tiny bit of my index finger because I got distracted while making dinner one night… (extra flavour right? JOKES!)
The number one rule of ball sports is to keep your eye on the ball. Generally, you should be paying attention and focusing on whatever it is you’re doing, the direction you’re going, the ball you want to catch. Lose focus and you drop the ball, crash into a wall, or break something…
What has your attention in life? What are you focused on? The best way to achieve your goal, or to complete your task, is to stay focused on it.
Pay attention.
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Don’t get distracted by greed and selfishness etc., lock in, eyes forward pay attention. He will lead and guide you down the road of His purposes and plans for you. By focusing on God, the author and creator of all life including yours, you will find your true self and you will fulfil your destiny. (Star Wars much?) And it will help you minimise those bumps and breakages along the way… But even when you experience them, just look straight to Jesus, our redeemer and healer.
To be at someone’s “right hand” in the context of the Old Testament was to have their honour and strength. It was the right hand that built cities and waged wars. Strength, dignity and honour. You have God at your right hand. He is your strength, your source of hope. He builds you up and He trains you to navigate the obstacles and oppressions of this life. With Him beside you, being your strength and hope, no matter what comes against you, you will never be shaken away from Him. He is with you always, through it all.
His eyes are full of peace and love, never hatred or disappointment. They are endless pools of possibilities and hope.
Keep your eyes and your life focused on Him and strengthened by Him.
