For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6 (NLT)
PART 3 – Everlasting Father.
OK so get this, God is permanent! Rev 22:13 says “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Pretty much God was there when it all began, and He'll be there when it all ends. That being said, it's safe to say we can depend on Him being around for a fair while. Jeremiah 31:3 says “I have loved you with an EVERLASTING love”.
So if He's an “Everlasting Father” who loves us with an “Everlasting Love”, then like a parent, His love will be unconditional and protective…forever! It's a comforting thought isn't it? But everlasting means not only lasting for a long time', but also that God will have a long-lasting perspective on our future. That in turn means that He's not going to take short cuts for short term wins. He's in it for the long-haul. He's looking at the big picture of your life!
When my son was 2 and half, he'd often wake up in the morning and ask for ice cream for breakfast. It was very cute but I would invariably say “no” and it would often result in a full-on, emotional meltdown. It was tempting to just say “yes” and avoid the tantrum but I knew that it was not good for his long-term health and so I'd have to be tough. Though you may know what you want, God, in His ‘big-picture' view, knows what you need. It may hurt for a while, but it's developing character and personality traits that will set you up for bigger wins down the track.
Are you trusting in God's timing today? He does have an everlasting perspective…allow it to develop and mature you fully! You guys are the best…Don't stop believing that more good stuff is coming your way!
