Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isa 40:28 (NIV)
Do yourself a favour and Google “Pale Blue Dot.” What you see is a tiny spec of dust suspended in a beam of light.
In fact, what you see is a picture of the earth taken from 6 billion kilometres (3.7 billion miles) away.
The earth is small and infinitesimal. One might even say “insignificant.”
It’s amazing to think that God takes up all this space, this vastness that fills the universe, and then would even care about earth, let alone an individual on the earth.
He is not some distant, up-on-a-throne God, who sends His minions scurrying around to check up on what’s happening in this corner of the universe or that juncture of the galaxy.
No, He is in it and through it (Rom 11), weaved like an intricate tapestry into every particle that ever existed.
What that means is, despite that infinite distances represented by space and time, He is and will always be “up in your face.” Right there in front of you. Involved and inextricably entwined in your reality. What matters is your awareness to His nearness.
He is closer than anybody could ever get to you because He is in and through you, delicately dancing and holding together the fine balance that keeps every one of us in existence.
Next time you see a piece of dust caught in the sunlight, floating through the air, remember that you and I are the same in the scheme of this physical reality. However don’t let that deceive you into thinking that God is distant.
Let it remind you that He is there, He is near and that He does hold it all together for your good.
Like swimming in the ocean means you can’t escape being enveloped by water, being alive means you can’t escape the very essence and creative power of who God is.
Now you are aware, what you do with that knowledge matters most.
