But don’t quit. Don’t cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. Matt 10:22 (MSG)

I love talking on this subject. One of the highest encouragements you can ever give another person is the encouragement to “not give up”. To summon up the strength within and keep fighting and keep pushing forward. We often surprise ourselves when we do, at what we can achieve.

It’s just like a trainer at the gym. “C’mon! Give me one more rep!” they say when we’re struggling with what we think is our last. Then promptly after the ‘one more’ they ask for another. They know we’ve got more in us than we think and often as humans, we under-value ourselves and our abilities.

I love the Dove ‘Real Beauty’ Commercial where a Forensic Artist draws pictures of women describing themselves. He doesn’t see them but only draws what and how they describe themselves to him. Next he draws them the way that someone else describes them. Most of the pictures described by someone else are the most accurate and beautiful yet the self-described pictures seem all distorted and frumpy. (PS here's the link to the youtube clip for you to find easily). Our tendency is to underplay and under-rate ourselves and it has a dramatic effect on our threshold to stay in the game.

Napoleon Hill tells the story of a man who was sure of gold in a certain location. The man spent much money on the infrastructure of a mine. After a lot of unsuccessful prospecting the man sold the mine for a pittance. The new owner continued the drilling only to strike gold 3 feet deeper than where the original owner stopped!

Don’t give up. Don’t cave in. There is hope at the end of the dark tunnel…just keep digging. You never know, you could just be 3 feet away from gold! Today has God’s smile all over it…smile back…
