Day to Live – Part 5

Go to  PART 1  |  PART 2  |  PART 3  |  PART 4

I have spent so much time wishing my life was different, longing for things that I don't have, imagining what things will look like in the future, or what things would have looked if other things had never happened. But right before me, in my hands, I hold this day. I cannot change what has been, and I cannot change everything about the future. I don't have direct power over my government, I cannot control the people around me. All I have is this day, my mind and my body. And within these three things that I do have, I want to live deeply and fully. And if I spend this precious day worrying about the things that I cannot change, idle distracting things that are of no progressive consequence, then I waste the gift that I’ve been given.

God, through his word, and ultimately through the person of Jesus, spends so much time speaking to us about our identity. We are loved, chosen, set free, redeemed, covered by grace, forgiven and hope-filled… and so much more. Not so we can boast, or dominate. But so that we can make the most of our days. So much so that we could number them. Living fully, not worrying over our worthiness or the right to do so.

Today is as a good a day as any for:
Joy that overflows,
Peace that subdues,
Patience that endures,
Kindness on display,
Life full of virtue,
Faith that prevails,
Gentleness of heart,
Strength of spirit.
(Gal 5:22 – the Passion Translation).

Today is as good a day as any to:
seek forgiveness,
accept forgiveness,
awake to the knowledge of God,
to rest in his presence,
to act in his grace,
to allow his strength to fill up your weaknesses,
to love others as Christ loves you.

And those things that you are waiting for – the things that you put down to God’s perfect timing – now is the day to live in faith and grace. Faith that says, “I will follow,” Grace that says “come what may.”

If you’re suffering, I can’t guarantee that your prayer will be answered the way you want it to. But I know that in Christ, there is rest and healing for your heart and soul.

If you’re dreaming big crazy dreams, I can’t guarantee that they will come to pass. But I know that your life is treasured and full of purpose; nothing is wasted and whatever happens meaning and hope can be found within it.

God’s perfect timing? Now is the time, today is the day. Whatever season you are in, now is the perfect moment to seek the divine and infinite, to peel back the material fabric of your circumstances and see the eternal, the heartbeat of heaven, the Kingdom of God, laced in and around your life.

God’s rhythmic perfection of faith, hope and love, remain. They beat on through it all.
