Country of Origin – The Perfect Blend Series – Part 1 - Pocket Fuel on 1 Corinthians 12:12

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 (NLT)

As you many of you might already know, I have a full-time job outside of what we do here with PktFuel.com – some might argue it’s the best job in the world.

I work for a Boutique Coffee Roaster.

Every morning, I ground fresh coffee beans and make Lizzy (wife) a latte. And then I spend my days drinking amazing coffee and hanging out with people in cafes.

OK… I admit it. It IS the best job in the world!

The company is called Glee Coffee Roasters, named after my good mates, and brothers, Ben and Chris Gleeson. Our signature blend is aptly titled “The Goods.”

What’s interesting about a blend is that it’s made up of various single-origins – coffee originating from a single country of origin. As a roaster, we take origins from places like Mexico, Kenya, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, etc, and blend them together so that when the coffee is extracted, it has a well balanced and rounded flavor. Without the diversity and mix of unique origins, we couldn’t create a blend that is harmonious across milky AND black coffees.

Each origin features its own unique flavor determined by the soil, the climate of the country and region, and the process the bean undergoes to be ready for roasting.

For example, a dry process coffee takes weeks for the fruit to ferment off the coffee bean. However, the fermentation process packs powerful flavors into the bean. The alternative, wet process, happens much faster, just a few days. Although the fruit doesn’t seep its flavor into the bean as much, the unripe fruit is easy to separate, making this process more consistent.

When we look at humanity, in the same way, each of us has a country of origin. Our country of origin has its own individual culture that collectively affects all of its citizens. You can see it in foods, customs, and communities.

Some cultures have been around for thousands of years, slowly seeping their rich flavors into the world. Others are younger but have managed to work fast in being prominent on the cultural world stage.

All of these cultures make up the blend of humanity that is both sacred and miraculous. Neither is right or wrong, but each brings its own unique flavour to the world, and together they all make a beautiful and well-rounded blend.

As you go about your day, notice that the world around you is made up of all kinds of different people… and it takes all kinds to reflect the diversity and beauty there is in the Divine Creator.

Look at people – be present and fully drink up the moment.

Stop. Admire. Listen. Watch. Breathe. Rest.

These people you're looking at? As different as they may be from you? They are a walking, breathing miracle. Don’t let familiarity cheapen their value.

Oh… and while you’re it, be sure to enjoy some incredible coffee too!
