Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. Phil 4:11 (NLT)
PHILIPPIANS SERIES – PART 6
One of the reasons we’ve done a series on Phil 4 is that it’s such procession of daily applicable principles. Each one linked but then different in a powerful way. Each one a sneak-peak into living life well.
And today’s is no exception.
Contentment is an attitude that seems so far from most Western lifestyles. It seems that most of the time we're running a race – pushing harder and faster for an elusive prize! More often than not, it’s the obvious things, money, fame and success, in all its various forms, that push us.
Nothing is wrong with those things when they’re a by-product of God leading us into it.
Note though, that I said “leading”. Pushing comes from our own strength and will only wear us down. Burn us out. Leading, on the other hand, is the way God takes us into success in any form! Not pulling or dragging but a grace to live out the life He has called us to. After all, we are saved by His grace.
Contentment then is knowing that you are on a journey to success in God. It is the confidence that wherever you’re at, you know that God is in control and won’t let you fall… and that He’ll never stop leading you closer to your purpose and destiny.
It’s easy to confuse contentment with settling with where you’re at. I think this is not what it is.
When you travel to a destination and make a stop over, the stop over is not where you intend to remain – the destination calls. However, you don’t get angry and frustrated with the stop over as it’s a necessary part of the journey… and you eventually arrive at your destination.
You may not be happy with where you’re at today but realise its a stop-over on the journey to your destiny. Be content that there is a progress toward it and learn everything you can from every season and stop along the way.
Contentment makes the journey to our calling so much sweeter and enjoyable… Make sure you enjoy the journey today!
