Brand New – Digital Sabbath Series
**WE INTERRUPT THE NEW THING SERIES FOR A DIGITAL SABBATH**
For one day over the weekend, we turn off all our devices – phones, computers, tablets – we ignore our emails and messages (except for the fun ones), the to-do list and expectations, and we rest. For those who have trouble with the word “rest,” you might like to call it “recovery” instead. Think of it as a time to put back into your body and spirit all the energy it has spent during this last week. It’s a day to think, pray, and spend time with those you love.
I came across this quote, but I can’t find the author (The picture I saw it attributed to “Carl Bard,” who Zig Ziglar attributes the quote to but I can’t find anyone with that name who has written anything. It could be the work of theologian Karl Barth and some even suggest James R. Sherman as the original author. Just thought you’d like to know…):
“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”
Learn what you can from the past, and make peace with it. You can’t change what has been, but you can change where you’re headed.
I used to think the “Good News” of Christ was that I could be made brand new. Now, I realize that rather than giving me a do-over, Christ brings newness into the middle of my ageing, lived in, old life. It’s an incredible grace given to us all.
