Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: (Psalms 103:2 NKJV)
I'm half Italian and so grew up speaking little bits of it in phrases and words. Most would have heard “molto bene” as a response to “how are you?” or “how is it?”. It means very (molto) good (bene). Both English and Italian are derived from Latin and so many words have the same root. So ‘bene' means ‘good' and is where English gets the terms ‘benevolent', ‘benefactor', ‘beneficial' and ‘benefit.' To ‘benefit' means to do good, to profit or to gain. When you've realised a relationship with God, through Jesus, then you have gained much! Eternal life is just the start! So when the kids are screaming, the house is messy, a business deal goes south, you get a scratch on your new car, don't get frustrated and upset that life isn't fair…turn your perspective to Jesus and bless the Lord, forgetting not all His benefits. You have much to be thankful for, even when the small things go wrong. Don't allow those small things to exalt themselves above the knowledge of Christ (2 Cor 10:5) but cast them down by ‘forgetting not all His benefits'…the good He has done, sacrificing Himself on the Cross. Taking on the extreme conditions suffered because of the sin of the world, setting us free! Bless His Holy Name! Your best days, in Him, are ahead…confess it and believe it today…Much love.
