“Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.” (Proverbs 3:3)
Most of us live in a culture where there's pressure to gain stuff. It comes from an identity flaw in the human nature which places value on what we do.
There's a temptation to try and run this race but we always come off exhausted and unable to achieve what seems to be the ideal.
This passage in Proverbs 3 turns that thinking on it's head. It can be easy, at first glance to think that we need to strive for these qualities, loyalty and kindness, but actually it's not about what we decide to “do”, but in fact about who we decide to “be”.
See when you strive to do these tasks…that's what they become…tasks! But if you decide that you want to be a loyal person, you'll always be looking for opportunity to be loyal, and rather than striving, it will naturally flow out of who you are.
And the same applies to kindness. You'll find that there'll always be instances and situations where you can outwork who you've decided to be, as a kind person.
Today, stop striving to be identified by what you “do”, and instead decide to “be” – trust me…there's a big difference.
Look at these qualities and be that person. Doing them is just a vain exterior.
Being them is a completely sold-out lifestyle. We hope this simple thought changes your day…bless you guys heaps!
