“Be” Series – Part 4 – Be Happy
How frustrating is it when you're at a cafe or restaurant and the person serving you is obviously unhappy? It makes your experience and the interaction mostly unsatisfying and in some cases very uncomfortable. In these situations I love to be extra nice to those people. It either turns them around or makes them squirm in their unhappiness more. It's sad when they choose the latter.
Happiness is our choice and we decide which emotional path to take when faced with a situation that has or could go bad. That's why this verse says “always rejoice” – it's saying that the decision lies with you. It's also saying that's there's always a reason to be happy. You have a choice to rejoice. It's always available to you at every juncture. When you pre-determine you'll make the ‘happy choice' in every circumstance, you'll actually find that life will happen with a lot less resistance. People will want to be around you. You'll definitely get more tips. You'll get more compliments. You'll get more friends. You'll get more opportunities and tough times will definitely be a lot less tougher.
I recently had the opportunity to meet Brother Yun, the author of the “Heavenly Man”, when he spoke at our church. Yun was imprisoned and aggressively tortured by his captors all for being a Christian. He spent a total of 7 years behind bars and lived a life ‘on the run' whenever he was outside of prison. One of the things that struck me when meeting him face-to-face was the incredible joy all over him. “How could such a man, deprived of so much, still be happy?” I asked myself. Most of us would buckle under that kind of torment and be forever scarred. I felt the answer resonate back to me “he chooses to be happy”.
Today, pre determine that you'll always be someone who makes the choice to BE HAPPY. It'll set you up for greater blessing. Much love team! Have a brilliant day!!
