Awake My Soul

My dad once told me this story about how, when he was 19, he helped out at a homeless refuge. They used to serve hot soup and use cars and vans to bring in the homeless. One night while out doing pickups, a homeless guy, who was quite large in stature, got very irate and upset while travelling in the backseat of the van. The commotion got out of control and all the other passengers started to lose it too…my dad was at his whits end and in a panic to calm the chaos, found himself singing out loud….softly at first, but then getting progressively louder. In a moment the chaos just miraculously stopped and everyone was happy for the van ride to go on normally. The song that he sang was “Amazing Grace.” It's pretty incredible how music can reach you and I at a deep-level and have a profound impact on the way you think, feel and act. Music is a God-invention that is purposed for Worship. It opens up the soul realm and primes us ready for revelation of Him. Next time you're feeling the chaos rain on you, direct yourself to just starting singing. It's almost impossible to sing and be unhappy (for very long) at the same time. In fact when someones faces depression, experts say that ‘regular singing' is a sign of navigating out of it. Allow your soul to come alive with the revelation of God and the peace, purpose and destiny He has for your life. Whatever your situation let your soul sing.
