A Moment's Notice
Jesus teaches us to meet people where they’re at. Not directly as there’s no verse or passage that has Jesus saying, “meet people at whatever point of life you find them in!”
No, He teaches us to do it by His actions.
Jesus wasn’t in the temple when He told these guys “I’ll make you fishers of men.” Actually, He was down by the lake where they were… you guessed it… fishing!
It was at a well when He met a Samaritan woman. A sycamore tree when He met Zacchaeus. A thronging crowd when he healed the woman with the issue of blood and He was on the cross when He met a criminal.
Wherever He found Himself, that’s where He chose to be, with whoever else was there.
So often we're living out this face-paced life, zipping in and out of traffic, looking down at our devices, heading for the milk aisle like it’s a covert mission. We miss the here and now and the beautiful and miraculous ‘others' who fill the very same space and intersection of time.
And so the opportunity is missed while we fill our moment with other things in other places.
But all we have is this moment. The next one is never guaranteed. And in this moment are great and divine opportunities for connection – one’s where you can leave an eternal impact or where others could do the same for you.
A smile. A gesture. A gift. A spark that ignites a great wildfire of hope and love.
Don't worry if it doesn’t happen this time, but just keep living in this moment – eyes open for the wonder of opportunities all around you. Keep persisting and watch miracles unfold.
God wants to meet people where they’re at – in this very moment. Most importantly, He wants to meet you in this very moment.
But how can He if you’re somewhere else…
So look up and lock in… and just choose to live in the moment.
